Vauxhall’s much vaunted VXR brand has created many fine hot hatches and saloons over the years, and the latest incarnation of the Corsa with its turbo motor is bound to be ripe for a bit of fettling. Gloucestershire based Forge Motorsport has created a beautifully engineered uprated wastegate actuator to be able to cope with higher boost levels on tuned and hard-driven examples.

Each unit is entirely hand-fabricated by Forge’s time-served craftsmen here in the UK, and uses motorsport-quality materials and fabrication methods to create a unit which is both hugely effective and aesthetically pleasing at the same time.

The Forge actuator is precision CNC machined from a solid aluminium billet and features an adjustable rod and custom fabricated bracket to allow it to be bolted into the factory position as a direct replacement for the original part. With a range of internal springs available, it is the perfect way to allow higher boost levels to be run after other modifications such as ECU remapping have been carried out.

Priced at just £132.30 + VAT, the Forge actuator looks as well as it performs. An essential upgrade for any high-velocity VXR!
Designed to blow away the competition, the 1.6-liter turbo has been outfitted with a high-performance needle valve (€980), higher-quality connecting rods (€550), larger fuel injectors (€500), and an HG Motorsport turbo manifold (€1,200). Furthermore, the company installs a Garret GT28 turbocharger (€1,000), a custom intercooler (€600), a 100mm air-flow meter (€300), a 7mm downpipe (€800), and a stainless steel sport exhaust system (€800).

Thanks to all these tweaks, the engine produces 360 PS (265 kW / 355 hp) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque – an increase of 180 PS (132 kW / 178 hp) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft).

To help keep things in check, the car has also been equipped with a sport clutch (€1,100), a Quaife locking differential (€900) and a high-performance braking system with 356mm discs being clamped by eight-piston calipers (€2,000).

Last but not least, the Astra rides on 20-inch Schmidt Revolution wheels with Pirelli P.Zero tires (€3,200).

Performance filtration specialists Pipercross have added yet another core tuner car to their 3,000-strong model portfolio; the new Vauxhall Astra J. The new mid-sized hatch from Vauxhall looks set to offer credible opposition to Ford’s Focus and will doubtless be a favourite of tuners everywhere, thanks to an excellent range of engines and well balanced chassis.

The car responds extremely well to breathing modifications, with a panel filter and exhaust upgrade often being the first improvements that owners make. The Pipercross filter is designed to be an exact replacement for the rather asthmatic factory paper filter and uses multiple foam layers to allow up to 30% more air flow through to the engine, improving power, torque and drivability over the stock set-up. Best of all, it’s made here in good old Blighty!

As well as increased flow rate, thanks to its unique (and patented) multi-laminated open cell polyurethane foam construction, the Pipercross upgrade can actually filter down to a much finer rate than the OEM part, preventing any foreign particles from entering the induction tract, meaning even greater protection for the Astra’s engine. This same construction means that the filter can also go longer between service intervals than even leading cotton-gauze filters, before needing to be cleaned.

Best of all, despite these impressive abilities, the Pipercross filter comes with a lifetime warranty and can be easily cleaned again and again for re-use, providing decades of faithful service and paying for themselves many times over.

The price is a very reasonable £34.85. Bearing in mind that it’s the only one you’ll ever need – what are you waiting for?

For more details on the 3,000 vehicles covered by the Pipercross range, please visit www.pipercross.com

Regardless of how full the compact van is to be loaded: with the Eibach Pro-Kit Performance Springs there is always enough room for a generous amount of driving enjoyment. Guided by their balanced suspension, the Meriva negotiates through each corner safely and with sporty feedback. The appearance also profits from the reduction of the vehicle‘s centre of gravity. The outline of the car seems lower and more dynamic.

The car looks even more impressive with the Eibach Pro-Spacer Wheel Spacer. They come in different sizes and give the bodywork of the Meriva even greater performance.

All Eibach suspension components, which are available through authorised dealers, are provided with a high-quality corrosion protection and are TÜV-certified.

Aerodynamic components, lowering, wheels and design elements have been developed by Steinmetz specifically for the Astra J, to give an even more striking but not obtrusive design.

The Steinmetz lowering has been matched to the FlexRide System and the Watt linkage fitted to the rear axle. The Steinmetz lowering by 30 mm has been specially developed for city traffic, but is also ideal for a quick blast around the North Loop of the Nürburgring.
The new Steinmetz aerodynamic components provide that external wow factor. With the front spoiler and totally black front grille by Steinmetz, the front end appears even more dominant. For the rear, a roof spoiler has been designed to pick up the flowing styling lines. Available as an option for the sides, there are designer strips in silver and anthracite and door handle plates in polished stainless steel.

The second world premiere at the Tuning World Bodensee is the launch of the ST10 alloy wheel in size 8.5J x 19″ ET39 in Bicolor. The classic Steinmetz Design with two dishes between the partially open five spokes perfectly fills the wheelarches of the Astra J by Steinmetz and gives a fine view of the standard brakes. Clear lines, a inwardly dished wheel centre with semi-circular Steinmetz logo above the three-dimensional centre cap are additional eyecatchers of the ST 10 by Steinmetz.

In the same size as the ST10, the ST7 from the existing range can also be fitted. Both alloy wheels run on tyres size 235/35/R19 without any adaptation to the wheelarches on the Astra J by Steinmetz.

Steinmetz Opel-Tuning recommends tyres by Continental and Michelin.
The right gear always in view. For the interior, finished to a high standard by Opel, Steinmetz has developed a gear display which shows the driver – in his colour of choice – the gear currently selected. Foot mats with a stainless steel logo, and sill trims of polished stainless steel, complete the Steinmetz product range for the Astra J.
